'There is something about the edge: the edge of the land and water, of habitation and wilderness of safety and danger. Here possibilities abound that don’t exist in the security of the interior. Mythically it is the lone explorer
that searches out the edge. But in life it is entire populations who learn to live at it, on it, with it.'

In January 2012 Transport finished 3 weeks of research & development with dance/theatre company Ranan in India working on a new piece entitled 'The Edge'. A week of this time was spent in the Sundarbans, India: the largest single block of tidal mangrove forest in the world which lies in the vast delta on the Bay of Bengal. The Sundarbans is an area on the frontline of environmental change and there we met villagers and NGOs working in the region. This trip followed a visit from Ranan to the UK in August 2011, during which we worked together in Folkestone and at the National Theatre Studio.
In January 2011 we travelled across the English Channel to Calais with 3rd year collaborative and devised theatre students from Central School of Speech & Drama. This was followed by 6 weeks of work with them resulting in performances at the New Diorama Theatre and a sharing at Southbank Centre's Alchemy Festival.
'The Edge' will be realised in 2013.
Supported by the British Council India's Connections through Culture programme.
